Yeah, I think my problem is that I don't have a long enough arm on the servo (even if I have a few spares). I tried drilling another hole in the throttle arm on the carb too (a little closer to the shaft), but it's still not going all the way. Can't remember having this problem on the 1/5 track cars.. however there was a problem with FG's and other cars with a soft chassis plate, the flexing caused throttle blips. Maybe this could happen on these cars too? Not a duraluminium plate we have here.. I imagine there is a lot of flex going on.

ya, i reckon the chassis plate is way too soft i'm in the process of making... -a new chassis 5mm with all side edges folded up and tig in the corners, to make it laterally more rigid- only coz i am sick of the nose of the chassis bending up so d**ned easily! not heard of throttle blips caused by chassis flex, but who knows... -also making an ally servo plate with twin mg hitq hitec steering servos -making ally shock tower brackets that are bracketed to the chassis to transfer the stress to the chassis- not to the dif boxes -making ally lower suspension A arms with metal rod ends to replace the infernal rose joints that pop off and break so easily. if this doesnt work, then i'll make hinged ally lower arms similar to the top arms... i noticed the 2009 MCD ultimate rally has full ally suspension incl hinged top and bottom suspension arms... go figure lol i'll stick with the single servo throttle/brake, only coz mine works well thus far... full throttle range, and progressive braking to instant 4 wheel lock up... took a bit of fiddling to get it all to work well, but worth it... running two 1/4 scale servos for steering i'd rather save the battery power and stick to single throttle/brakes keep up the good work mate *thumbs up!*

Maybe going with a Duraluminium plate in the same dimensions as the standard would do the trick? Will not add any weight, but is a LOT stronger than the soft alu used from the factory. Many 'high end' cars use this.

Just wanted to report that I'm still happy with my steering mod. :-) Running with one Hitech servo, and it's working well. Saves the cost of a servo, and reduces power consumption on the receiver batteries, and of course less flex in the steering. No issues with it this far.

Hello! Here is a small update on the steering mod. After some driving i realized some dust had been collecting in between the pin and moving hubs, so i modified it a little to try to keep the dust out, and I will also try to put some grease in there and see how it works out. I cut down the aluminum a bit with a big drill (alu is now conical in the ends) and put o-rings in both ends. Here are the pics: (I just noticed that the pin is the wrong way around in the pics, but I think you get the idea)

I did another small mod to the steering the other day By adjusting the length of the center rod, the ackermann angle can be tweaked. The main reason was however that the ball joints were developing some play. In sumary I'm very happy with my custom steering setup, works very well, and no breakdowns! Here is also a video of the steering, I remember this was requested a long time ago, well, finally, here it is.. Video

still one of biggest issues is the steering on the FS, im still using the normal setup, all that i changed was the off centre joints for the steering to a straight setup like yours, it is a difference but there is still room for improvement.. i like the way the redcat is layed out

How did they do it on the redcat? If you feel like putting down the work, I recommend my version, I'm really pleased with it! Nice and tight, and not a lot of losses, one Hitec 805 servo is enough in my opinion.

redcat is sideways, same as fs but no servo plate for the servos... will try get a pic

That gave me an idea.. I have no need for the servo-plate really, just some 'posts' sticking up on each side of the servo would be enough... that would make the center diff more accessible too.. Would still be nice with a pic if you find one!

Yes, I like that solution, might be a change to do in the future.

I snapped the output shaft of the steering servo in a rough landing today (think I tightened the servo saver too much ), so I updated the servo layout a bit since I had to remove it anyway. Here is the new layout: Back to one servo for throttle and brake. It's all in modules for easier access now, compared to before. The plastic parts are from the Carbon Fighter, and they are separated, so I can remove the radio box without removing the throttle servo etc..

ye that can happen if its to tight well we all learn form our mistakes even if they are little ones lol i like that idea that you can remove the radio box without removing the throttle servo etc.. saves a lot of hassle nice one also looking at the photos i see you have the steering connecting rods on the wrong way here's a link for you to See how they should be fsracing4wd.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=electronics&action=display&thread=72
