hi well i thought you might want to see this well it started this morning i noticed that there was a bit of play in the servo saver so i thought how could i fix this with out paying money to get the new alloy servo saver or the stock one so was looking t the servos and thought why cant we all just turn the servos upside down then we don't have that long shaft that where the connecting screw goes threw to join the steering to the servo saver well here is my solution to it and it works ps don't for get where you saw it first oh and please don't for get to put your receiver system in reverse the steering that is ok lads

Looks nice! A bit curious how it looks underneath the servo-plate. No conflict between the link from the servo and the link between the two servo-savers? Or are you operating the wheels independently?
From working on my car (not driven it yet) the worst piece of engineering on it seems to be the steering. The drivetrain surely has a lot of loss with all the gears, but the steering setup is worse. I know it's a MCD clone, and it seems the MCD-guys had a hangover the day they were doing the steering.. :-) Way to much flex, arms are too short, and the post for the servo arm is way too long, but the fix above solves that. I think this is the reason the car needs two servos just to be able to turn the wheels (in combination with the offset of the wheels too). Short arms puts more force on the components(ball joints & axles), thus creating more friction. I'm working on some improvements too, hope they will work.. :-)

Hi again! I did a 'stage 1' mod today. Removes a lot of flex and some play (no more twisting of the plastic -toe in/out). The center joints could be replaced with normal ones, to remove some more play. Detail: Still needs some grinding, steering arms are binding at full stop with suspension fully in, but it's an easy fix. I think you get the general idea.

Yeah, on charge now, but the d**n thing drains the batteries like it was a steering servo :-)

Steering mod stage 2: Just to give you an idea of my plans.. Will be fabricating a new radio-plate.. not easy with the basic tools i have basically an angle grinder and drill press.. a 3D machine would be nicer :-)

well sir my hats of to you that's a fine peace off work once again if you don't have the money then make it your self that's wat this hobby is all about i love it hey rallfinnen so wat the reason for the new servo tray then don't you have enough room because of the steering mod ?
keep m coming

The reason for the new radio plate is that i will lay the servo's down like on the pic. The height is not a good match to keep the servos standing like before, no matter if i turn them upside down or not. Mounted upside down they would end up very high. With the servos standing like before, i would have to use extension arms like on the standard steering, and that kind of defeats the purpose of the mod.. The longer alu arms also collides with the servos in their standard position, so i could not use the standard servo plate even if i wanted to. I hope my 'engineering' is right, and it will work better than the standard solution.. To me this is a more logical layout, within the limitations of what i can fit in the car and manufacture myself. This should hopefully give a more efficient torque transfer in the steering, with less play and flex. I bought two Hitec 805 servos, but I hope one should be enough after this mod..

Tried a video, but it was too dark inside to get a good picture.. I tried it with one servo and it seems ok, but using just one servo saver makes it way too soft. I don't think it's possible to tighten the spring enough to make it hard enough. Here is a pic from when i was working on the new servo plate: Will be using two separate servos for throttle and brake. I have problems getting enough travel for the throttle though. (Yeah, I scrapped the tiny standard wire, but still..) How have you guys solved that?
